An update

Some may have noticed that it's been well over a month since my last post. For various reasons, I'm taking a bit of a break. I hope to get back to posting soon...But I wanted to post a quick update, as well as a thank you to everyone who has viewed, commented and contributed over the last 4 and a half years. We're at very close to 300,000 page views, more than I ever could have imagined!

  2. Thanks so much for the wonderful page and the even more wonderful memories! I no longer live in Richmond - moved to the Midwest 12 years ago - but I was born and raised and grew up and lived in Richmond for the first 39 of the now 51 years I've been on the planet. So even though I haven't been back in a while, it's still my ol' hometown and always will be. :) Seeing the wonderful images you post on here and reading the commentary by folks who know tidbits about the places, faces, times - never fails to bring back many .. many ... many ... fantastic childhood memories! Richmond was the best place in the world to grow up - and I also get super excited when the new posts arrive. Stay well!

  4. I have really enjoyed your site as well. Though I am new to Richmond, I have found it interesting to see Richmond's past and put the present into perspective. Hope all is well and look forward to hearing from you again.

  5. As a Richmond native no longer living there, seeing the great pictures and stories posted here helps me feel connected to a city I loved growing up in. Thank you for all of your work on this site!

  6. I moved away almost 20 years ago but I still consider Richmond home and I miss it very much. Much like the poster above, I love coming to your site because it makes me feel connected to the city. Thank you for your site and time. Hope to see you back posting soon!

  7. The old Richmond of the 1950s and 1960s seems so much better and more interesting than the Richmond of today. VCU, in my opinion, is more of a curse than a blessing, although I graduated from there many years ago when it was small and the old domestic buildings were still standing.

    1. I agree - the old Richmond of 40, 50, 60 years ago, really does seem much better in a lot of ways. (For me it would be the Richmond of the '60 and '70s) - I also graduated from VCU - but at the time that the school was really getting underway in transforming from the VCU you describe into what it eventually would become and is today. I can't say one way or another whether it is a curse or blessing for the city as I moved away more than a decade ago. I would hazard to guess tho that city officials are very thankful that the school is flourishing in the city center.

  12. Thank you so much for this incredible treasure! I have an ongoing art project called "Missing Richmond," which documents buildings before, after, and during destruction, and incorporates fragments of the buildings themselves. May I obtain permission to use some of these images in my project? http://www.carylburtner.com/work/missing-richmond burtnercaryl@yahoo.com

  15. I have great respect for what you are doing, I only have one question? What happened to Fulton, I've looked at a lot of sites trying to find someone with a written history if of this neighborhood. So far it has came up empty! Why does this have to be, there is a lot of Richmond history there and of course it was the subject of Richmond Renewable. It turned out the other way and those poor people were left without homes. I truly believe that story should be told. Thank you in advance I remain Gene McCabe.5th generation of the McCabes of fulton..

  16. I used to visit this page constantly. Bummed to come back after a few years and see that the "break" turned into three years. I hope this isn't permanent, and that all is well. I really enjoyed what you were doing here.
